About Abbie Watson

I'm a Costume for Performance graduate from London College of Fashion, and I'm really excited to be building my career in the costume industry.

During my degree, I developed a strong practical foundation in costume making, including pattern cutting, corsetry, tailoring, hand sewing, embroidery, dyeing and made-to-measure construction. I particularly enjoyed seeing a project develop from initial research and design through to the finished costume, and learning how costume can help shape a character and tell their story.

Since then, I've been lucky enough to gain experience across film, television and theatre, working in a variety of costume environments. This has included working within the Women's Costume Making Team at the National Theatre, gaining experience on large-scale television productions, and taking on costume design, sourcing and styling roles for independent film and TV projects.

My experience has involved everything from fittings, alterations and costume preparation to sourcing, breakdown, dressing, continuity and on-set support. I really enjoy the variety of costume work and being able to move between the detailed, practical side of making and the fast-paced teamwork of a busy costume department.

One of my favourite things about working in costume is how much there is still to learn. I love being around experienced makers, designers and costume teams, picking up new techniques, asking questions and getting stuck into whatever needs doing.

I'm now looking forward to continuing to build my experience across film, television and theatre, developing my making skills and meeting more people within the industry. I'm excited to see where costume takes me next!
